Learning to manage a busy lifestyle is a tough thing to do. There is always something to worry about and always something that needs to be done. How do you manage to keep your sanity and still get everything accomplished?

Prioritize

First, you must learn to prioritize. Things that are most obviously important have to get done. You have to work, keep your house orderly, and nourish yourself. Make a very detailed schedule that outlines the most efficient use of every hour, minute, and second of the day. Learning to account for your time will ensure that you use your time wisely and complete tasks efficiently.

In addition, accounting for your time will give you some insight about how you spend your days. This will help you to determine whether you have an overly full plate or you are simply mismanaging your time. After a week or so of tracking your activities, take an honest look at how you work, and how you might work more efficiently.

Say "No"

Learn when to say yes and when to say no. The ability to say no may seem easy, but it is actually very hard for some people. Many people who cannot manage to sit down and have a bite to eat haven't learned to set boundaries.

If you have a conference call at 4 pm and you know that you are likely to be tired afterwards, accepting an invitation to have drinks with a friend at 6 pm is not a good idea. Say no! Say no because you don't feel like it; say no because you have the right to; and say no because it is okay to take a break at the end of a long day. Try saying yes only to the things that know you have time to do, and that you honestly will enjoy doing. You will be surprised at how much free time you will gain.

Time for Yourself

Finally, take time for yourself. There is always time before work to sip a cup of tea in silence and there is always time to take a half an hour to eat lunch in peace. If you don't believe this is true, you need to make time. Your work will still be there after your lunch break. If your life is extra busy and stressful, then you have even more of a reason to take time for yourself. If you do not take the time for yourself, your body will eventually force you to take time off, as you become ill from overwork.

These are just some tips to help you get control of your busy life. Remember, it is not about who can get the most done in a day, but about who is most proud about what they have accomplished. You do not need to measure your achievements by the number of tasks completed, but rather by the attention and effort that you give to each task. Stop and take a rest. Your heart, mind, body, and spirit will thank you!

I think we all could benefit by taking some time for ourselves. I'd like to take at least an afternoon off life sometimes and devote to me. The only problem is that I would feel guilty. Regardless great post. Should read that on a weekly basis.
