Upwork Empty Upwork

Post by sandra Mon Jan 16, 2017 5:01 pm

Upwork is one of the websites I work through as a freelancer.
I've found that Upwork can have both it's up and down sides.

Pros:
-There is tons of work
-Guaranteed payment
-very flexible when it comes to working hours
-Easy communication with the client

Cons:
-Opening a dispute with a client can cost you money if the client refuses to agree to a solution
-Because there's a lot of work, it can take a while before you find something suitable

Did Upwork used to be ODesk? If so, I did a bit of work through them. I found that there was much too much competition and as a result the pay rate was low. However, the best gig I found there actually turned into a writing job outside ODesk at a good rate of pay. If there was a way to find just the higher paying jobs, without so much competition, I would go back there.

I tried out this show before I believe. I didn't like it that much, I hard a hard time finding some work on the site. It's tough.

I actually tried using Upwork, and while I liked the interface and the amazing ways you can customize your profile to show that you're a perfect fit for a job, I actually disliked how they bill you almost every step of the way. Fiverr 20% off the top is pretty steep, but sometimes Upwork can cost you even more. One project I did ate up so much in hidden fee's I only ended up getting 30% off of a 5-hour project.

I like it for how big it is, but not for what it is sadly

30% off does seem pretty steep when there is still a lot of work involved in finding clients. I know I make about half of what the company I work for charges for editing, but I don't have to do any hunting for work.
